The Chucksphere: Two Consecutive Years of Nothing!
Now, on the anniversary of the creation of this tiny waste of space on some server out in Russia somewhere, is the time to reflect on the past glories and future potential of this creation. I assure you, this will not take much time at all. As a matter of fact, to keep this page from ending at preceeding period, I will provide a full status report for the Chucksphere.
Chuck's World O' Wargames: This website has changed minimally since last year. The Wheel of Time minatures wargame and "War and Pieces" remain un-updated. "Insecticide" remains unwritten. The only meaningful update to the site has been to spiff up the links to the various wargames, and add a link to the Games section of my blog.
Chuck-ese: Seaking of the blog...Honestly, the only thing I write about is how much I don't write anything in it, or for a nice change of pace how much I don't update any of my other projects. If you're lucky, I'll just provide a link-dump of things I found on Reddit that afternoon. For god's sake, the thing is so banal that the last thing I wrote about was the amount and kinds of spam I got!
The Provisional Small Island Nation Wiki: This is pretty much dead. What I hoped would evolve from my group of friends talking about the ideal country (ideal being defined as "applying to any quality that lets us steal as much as we possibly can from the citizens in exchange for little to no compensation") into a large web community. Unfortunately, I could not even get my original conspirators in on it, and it has pretty much withered and died.
On a related note, said wiki has been hosted at bluwiki.com for the past two years because the version of PHP Wiki that my host hosts refuses to install properly. I wrote my hosts a mildly annoyed e-mail, they said it was a bug with the version, and took it down a couple of weeks later. It returned after a couple of months, same version, same refusal to install.
The "About Me" Page: This just blows. I essentially took everything that was on the first version of the main page, put it on another page, and then displayed it indefinitely on the main page for lack of other "Features of the *Time Period*". It would, perhaps, be tolerable if I were to axe the personality quizes. And if I wrote a less pretenteous Biography of myself. And if I called it something other than "The Chucksphere Information Repository."
Dress Stephen: This fetus of an idea has been aborted. The concept was great; nobody had ever done this before, and was just the sort of retarded thing to get a massive following on the Internet. Implementation, however, was spotty. We went through two different site mockups before we settled on a third theme we downloaded. So we made our template, mostly just a large picture of Stephen without a shirt that I ripped off his MySpace and lots of Lorum Ipsum, with things like the actual coding we needed to collect votes and post comments to come at a later date. Stephen, being Stephen, flaked out on the whole "photograph your wardrobe" thing that was supposed to be the basis for the site. If Stephen didn't take pictures, I couldn't construct a form. If I didn't construct the form, Steve (with a V) couldn't write the scripts to do the heavy lifting on the site. If none of that shit got done, I couldn't put the site up and have nobody care about it. So I didn't.
Well, I actually have the template up on this site. It's an Easter Egg of sorts. Go find the stillborn-baby corpse!
Shut the Hell Up.org: There was never much more than a name behind hte project. The page itself has been banished from my server for over a year, the domain was nevera actually registered, and so I formally kill this project.
The Orbital Fiesta: Never got off the ground.
Spring and Autumn: See above.
As you can clearly see, I do not deserve to have this website. As a matter of fact, I considered not paying my server bill and migrating parts of this site elsewhere. I have that googlepages account that used to host my blog, and that blogger account I accidentally created. That easily covers all the bases of the current functioning Chucksphere. I almost went through with my dastardly plan, but I got cold feet and decided it would be less trouble to pay the bill and sort everything out later. Oh, how little did I know...(Billing dispute with PayPal.)
Despite my total lack of attention to this site, I'm still going to make Pie-in-the-Sky announcements about future things I expect to set up around the 30th of February.
Small Island Nation: Believe it or not, I actually plan on making this a novel. After, I'll reinstate the wiki and try to build some sort of online roleplaying community around it, with forums and everything. Probability of Success: 5%
Chuck's World O' Wargames: Get the shit done and get it out of the way.
My Senior Project: I'll put up my Senior project notes and such on the internet, even though anyone interested in the May Day Mystery will flock nowhere by Bryan D Hance's website on it.
I'm not going to be ambitious. I'll have this little thing called College to occupy most of my time. Thank you and good night.
